The question of the “Russian soul”—something intangible, unbreakable, and impossible to possess—came alive during the cultural concert “Russian Soul”, held on April 23 at the Chelyabinsk State Medical Academy.
The evening opened with a powerful blend of bell chimes and choral harmonies, as the renowned Gaudeamus Choir, named after N. G. Litvintseva, set a reflective tone. The first segment of the program focused on Easter traditions, symbolizing purity, compassion, and spiritual renewal.
The audience was then immersed in Russian heritage through performances by the folklore ensemble Chitinskaya Sloboda and the dance group Raduga from the Trans-Baikal Regional School of Culture. Their acts vividly illustrated the historical and cultural significance of what is often called the “holiday of holidays.”
A theatrical performance by the group “On a Quiet Street” introduced a deeper philosophical dimension. Using the road as a metaphor, the actors portrayed life as a journey filled with trials, transformation, and spiritual growth—reflecting both individual and national identity.
Traditional Cossack songs, symbolizing devotion to ancestral faith and customs, were performed by the academy’s vocal group Flame, along with artists from the Trans-Baikal Regional School of Culture. Adding a heartfelt touch, first-year medical students Polina Kolobova and Polina Shalikova moved the audience with their performance of “Native Land.”
The event was organized under the cultural initiative “Heritage”, a collaborative project between the academy and the Center for Training Church Specialists of the Chita Diocese, supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
Acting Rector Natalia Lareva emphasized the deeper significance of the event:
“The ‘Russian Soul’ is not merely a concert—it is a reminder of our roots and values. Love for others forms the foundation of our national identity. For medical students, compassion and care are not just ideals but essential responsibilities. In a diverse and multicultural society, it is this shared culture of empathy and unity that strengthens us all.”
