From DNA to a perfect smile—the lessons of the “School of Young Doctors” continue at Chelyabinsk State Medical Academy. Participants of the project “School of Young Doctors” continue to immerse themselves in the world of medicine. Several classes at once showed schoolchildren how different and intriguing it can be. At the Department of Pathological Physiology, the guys, together with their teachers, figured out why we get sick and how to avoid it. We discussed everything from the impact of ecology and infections to stress and lifestyle. Schoolchildren learned how the daily regimen, nutrition, and physical activity affect health and why a healthy lifestyle is not a restriction but a contribution to their future. And also, the guys took a real step into science. They got acquainted with molecular genetics: they discussed the structure of DNA, the genetic code, and mutations. Acquaintance with dentistry was no less exciting. In the phantom classroom of the academy, schoolchildren saw how a doctor's workplace is arranged, got acquainted with tools, and even tried themselves as dental technicians. One of the highlights is the sculpting of teeth. The guys created their own models and understood how important accuracy and attention to detail are in this profession. At a meeting with the volunteer detachment “Association of Young Dentists,” schoolchildren talked about important things—dental health in everyday life. They learned how to brush their teeth properly, what foods harm the enamel, and why a visit to the dentist is a necessity. Not without practice: future doctors taught the children the correct technique of brushing teeth on special models.
