Faculty of Medicine

From the beginning of the organization of the Academy in 1953, the Faculty of Treatment and Prevention was created. It was an educational, scientific and administrative unit of the Institute. The faculty trained students, postgraduates and clinical residents, advanced training of doctors, ideological and political education of students and staff. Research and joint work with health authorities was carried out. The faculty united departments, laboratories, medical bases, offices included in its structure, had educational areas, necessary equipment, student dormitories.

The work of the faculty from 1953 to 1961 was supervised by the dean of the faculty, associate professor, head of the department of physics Sergey Ivanovich Vasilov. During the formation of the faculty, he did a lot of work on the organization of the educational process at the departments, the organization and implementation of educational, research and ideological and educational work at the faculty. Quality control of the implementation of curricula and programs, the educational schedule by the departments was ensured. Particular attention in the work of the dean's office was paid to the organization of everyday affairs and extracurricular work of students. Sergey Ivanovich was distinguished by high demands in working with students and at the same time attentive and respectful attitude to them. A great contribution to the further development of the faculty was made by Vasily Antonovich Kozlov, Professor, Head of the Department of Pathological Physiology, Dean of the Faculty from 1963 to 1974. Vasily Antonovich paid special attention to the work on the selection of teaching staff at the faculty, the selection of candidates for postgraduate and clinical residency and advanced training of employees. He did a lot to create conditions for the training of personnel and directly supervised the scientific work of young teachers of the faculty. Associate professors Nikolai Andreevich Chartorizhsky, Yuri Alexandrovich Domaev and Vladimir Nikolaevich Ivanov worked as deputy deans of the faculty during this period. These excellent specialists carried out control of student progress and attendance, certification of students on current academic performance and socio-political practice at the faculty. They did a lot for holding mass events at the faculty, industrial practice and organizing the life of students in the dormitory.

From 1974 to 1979, the faculty was headed by Associate Professor of the Department of Pharmacology Yuri Alekseevich Belozertsev (now Professor of the Department of Pharmacology). Associate professors Mikhail Efimovich Kubasov and Valentina Vasilievna Lavrenova worked as deputy deans.
During these years, several fundamental changes were made in the activities of the faculty. An important stage in the development of the faculty was the organization of the Council of the Faculty of Medicine, the first chairman of which was Y.A. Belozertsev, and the secretary was associate professor Luttseva Maria Aksenovna. A great achievement was the introduction of the position of public deans in each year of the faculty. Such highly professional and respected teachers as Valentin Pavlovich Smekalov, Igor Viktorovich Rosin, Margarita Andreevna Dzhulai, Remida Mikhailovna Tishchenko, Nikolai Vasilyevich Govorin were the works of public deans. They were engaged in the organization of socio-political and educational work with students, the arrangement of independent work and leisure for students, and helped to plan work with low-achieving students. The dean's office was entrusted with the selection of teachers of the faculty (with the exception of heads of departments). The Dean's Office actively participated in the work of the Admission Committee, the State Examination Commission, the Commission for the Distribution of Young Specialists, and the Institute's Council. Yuri Alekseevich Belozertsev paid a lot of attention to the coordination of the research work of the departments of the faculty, discussion and approval at the meetings of the Faculty Council of the plans of candidate dissertations and the organization of research work of students at the faculty. During this period, a lot was done to organize sports work at the faculty. The public dean for sports Viktor Platonovich Sidorov worked. Students of the faculty have repeatedly won regional, all-Russian and all-Union competitions in boxing, wrestling, volleyball and other sports. Student construction brigades were formed and actively worked, the headquarters of which was headed by Evgeny Fedorovich Nikolaev for a long time.
