Faculty of Pediatrics

The Faculty of Pediatrics was opened on September 1, 1979 by the decision of the Ministry of Health of the RSFSR. The main purpose of the faculty was to train pediatricians in the Chita region and provide specialized medical care to the children's population. On September 1, 1979, 75 students were enrolled in the first year of the Faculty of Pediatrics.

A great merit in the organization of the faculty belongs to the leadership of the Chita State Medical Institute, the first head of the Department of Pediatrics, Professor E.P. Chetvertakova and the first dean of the Faculty of Pediatrics, Candidate of Medical Sciences A.V. Serkin.

Anatoly Vasilyevich Serkin headed the faculty from 1979 to 2003. An excellent organizer and teacher, a highly qualified doctor, under his leadership the departments of the faculty were organized, the staff of the teaching staff was selected, young personnel were trained, the first traditions of the faculty were laid. The best graduates of the faculty entered the postgraduate course in pediatrics. Most of the trained postgraduate students later headed the departments. A governing body was created - the Council of the Faculty of Pediatrics - whose members were leading scientists and heads of departments of the faculty. From the first days of the foundation of the faculty, a school of curators was developing, which was headed by Professor A.A. Goncharova with the staff of the Department of Biology. These traditions are preserved and developed to this day.

In the early 1990s, the Department of Pediatrics was divided into two: the Department of Propaedeutics of Children's Diseases with Faculty Pediatrics and the Department of Hospital Pediatrics with a course of polyclinics, which for many years were headed by highly professional teachers and doctors - Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor O.G. Maksimova and Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor T.A. Fedoseeva.

To this day, Olga Georgievna Maksimova continues to pass on her invaluable experience and knowledge to students and young doctors, having worked at the Academy for almost 50 years.

From 2005 to 2022, the Department of Pediatrics was headed by a student of J.J. Rapoport, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor I.M. Gaimolenko.

The need for practical health care in the training of pediatric surgeons justified the formation in 1983 of the specialized clinical department of pediatric surgery with traumatology, orthopedics and intensive care. The department was headed by Associate Professor L.S. Muravko, and from 2004 to 2022 - by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor S.G. Gaimolenko, who worked for many years as the head of the surgical department of the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital of Chita. For 37 years, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor S.L. Druchkova worked at the department.
In 1985, two new departments were organized. The first was Children's Infectious Diseases, which for twenty-three years was headed by a professional, teacher, mentor, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor K.G. Noskov. And the second was the Department of Pediatrics of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry under the leadership of Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor N.F. Bezrukova. Experienced doctors of practical health care, as well as employees who had completed clinical residency at the department, were involved in the educational process. The departments made a huge contribution to the activities of medical institutions, provided advisory assistance, trained and propagated personnel in the areas of activity.
