Buryat Traditions in Multinational ChSMA

study MBBS in Russia

Echo of Buryat Traditions in Multinational ChSMA – Student Life in Chita

At Chita State Medical Academy — a leading medical university in Chita, Russia — students from diverse national and cultural backgrounds pursue their education. As part of the academic environment in Chita, Trans-Baikal Territory, the academy reflects the multicultural character of the region and strengthens its reputation as a preferred destination for those planning to study in Russia, including international applicants seeking MBBS in Russia.

Continuing the series “ChSMA – Territory of Unity”, we spoke with fifth-year dental student Saryuna Tsydypova. Alongside her professional training in dentistry at one of the recognized medical universities in Chita, she actively preserves and promotes the traditions of her Buryat heritage within the academic community.

“Buryats are a people with deep traditions. Buddhism for us is not simply a religion but a way of life. It teaches respect for elders, harmony with nature, and inner balance — values that are essential for both life and medical practice,” she explains.

Cultural Diversity at a Medical University in Chita

The culture of the Buryat people is expressive and vibrant — reflected in traditional songs, dances, poetry, and crafts. At Chita State Medical Academy, such traditions enrich student life and create a dynamic multicultural environment for both Russian and international students studying medicine in Chita.

Saryuna is a member of the Buryat national student ensemble “Urgy” named after E. A. Radnaev. The ensemble’s performances contribute to the cultural life of Chita, Russia, and strengthen intercultural dialogue among students.

“We organize concerts, especially during the White Month – Sagaalgan. The academy supports us by providing rehearsal spaces and opportunities to participate in national competitions. It is important to feel that your culture is respected while you pursue medical education in Chita.”

Volunteerism and Cultural Heritage in Chita

Beyond her academic and artistic activities, Saryuna is also a volunteer in the Buyan Academy squad. Students participate in social initiatives that support Buddhist temples in the region — reinforcing the spiritual and historical significance of Chita in the Trans-Baikal Territory.

“We organize clean-up drives and community initiatives to preserve cultural heritage. Volunteering allows me to contribute meaningfully while staying connected to my roots.”

Before examinations or important decisions, she visits a local datsan (Buddhist temple), emphasizing the role of spiritual grounding during demanding periods of medical training in Russia.

“Prayer helps me stay calm and focused. It provides internal strength, which is essential for success in a rigorous medical university.”

Why Chita State Medical Academy Attracts Students

Discussing student life at Chita State Medical Academy, Saryuna highlights the inclusive atmosphere that makes it a growing choice for those planning to study MBBS in Russia:

“Here, respect for different nationalities is visible everywhere — during festivals of national cultures and joint academic events. Chita State Medical Academy feels like one big family where you can remain true to yourself while growing as a future doctor.”
